The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 1,153.18 points, or 2.19%, in Wednesday's session on 29 July 2026, its worst decline since April 2025. The S&P 500 fell 1.52% and the Nasdaq Composite lost 1.74%, ending the session more than 10% below its intraday record.
The selloff deepened after the Federal Reserve's decision to leave interest rates unchanged, which pushed long-dated Treasury yields sharply higher. The 30-year US Treasury yield rose 10 basis points to above 5.2%, its highest level since 2007.
In overnight trading following corporate earnings reports, Dow futures added 158 points or 0.3%, S&P 500 futures advanced 0.4% and Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 0.7%. On Thursday, 30 July, traders await weekly jobless claims, the June personal consumption expenditures price index and the first reading of second-quarter GDP. The Dow Jones consensus calls for headline PCE inflation of 3.7% and core inflation of 3.3%.
