European stocks fall on Monday as oil jumps; energy shares rise
13 July 2026 · 3 months ago
European stock indexes fell on Monday, July 13, 2026, following the renewed exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran and the rise in oil prices. The pan European STOXX 600 was down about 0.2 percent in early London trading, with construction and travel and leisure shares among the biggest decliners. Energy shares, by contrast, led gains as oil prices surged.
Brent crude rose about 3.7 percent to around $79 a barrel in the session. Concern over disruption to oil and gas flows through the Strait of Hormuz was the main driver of the jump in energy prices and of investor caution.
