Gharibabadi: the Iranian delegation rejected the US plan at the Islamabad talks over extreme demands
28 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Gharibabadi, deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, said on Monday, 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405), that negotiations had begun in Islamabad and that the American side presented a plan reflecting extreme demands, a plan he said the Iranian delegation explicitly rejected.
The remarks came in the same period in which the US president spoke of talks under way in a "very friendly" atmosphere while simultaneously raising the continuation of the naval blockade. The two accounts of the same process do not give a clear picture of the current stage of the negotiations.
The state of the Iran-US talks has been the single biggest driver of Tehran's currency and gold markets in recent weeks. According to Sahmino's own price data, the free market dollar stood at 187,985 tomans as of 19:59 on Monday, 27 July, up 0.8 percent on the day, while a gram of 18-carat gold was recorded at 18,209,000 tomans at the same time, up 1.85 percent.
