Global Copper Price Hits an Unprecedented $14,700 a Ton; Iran's Melli Mes (Femelli) Touches a One Year High in Tehran

10 September 2026 · 27 days ago

According to Boursepress, global copper prices have hit an unprecedented record of $14,700 a ton in recent days. Per Saman Tahlil, the jump reflects a combination of constrained mine supply, shrinking available inventories and the physical movement of copper toward the United States as markets anticipate possible new US tariffs on copper imports. Estimates show global mined copper output fell about 1.1 percent in the first half of 2026, partly due to lower production in Chile, Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Congo; on the demand side, the expansion of power grids, electric vehicles and especially the rapid growth of data centers and AI infrastructure have boosted copper consumption.

At the same time, according to Sahmino's own Tehran Stock Exchange board data, shares of Iran National Copper Industries (ticker: Femelli) rose for a twelfth consecutive session on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 (18 Shahrivar 1405), opening 2.97 percent higher to reach a one year high of 25,330 rials; in Thursday's session the stock carried a buy queue of more than 184 million shares at the same price. Boursepress noted that for copper chain stocks like Femelli, the global record alone is not enough, the more important variable will be how long copper stays above $14,000 a ton and how much of that gain passes through to domestic companies' profitability.
