According to the World Gold Council, global gold-backed ETFs recorded a net outflow of $8.9 billion in June 2026, though first-half 2026 flows remained positive with a net inflow of $8 billion. North American funds lost $5.5 billion in June, bringing the region's H1 outflow to $7.7 billion, the weakest first half since 2013. European funds saw $818 million in June outflows, trimming their H1 inflow to $3.2 billion. Meanwhile, Chinese investors withdrew a record $2.91 billion from gold ETFs in June. Global gold ETF assets under management fell to $526 billion in June, with holdings down 74 tonnes to 4,047 tonnes. The World Gold Council cited the pullback in gold prices, hawkish remarks from the new Federal Reserve chair, and rising real yields as the main drivers of the outflow.
