According to Ecoiran, Tehran's gold and currency market rose on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 (20 Mordad 1405), driven by both political headlines around the Strait of Hormuz and a rally in the global gold price. The free-market dollar rose 1,700 tomans (0.92 percent) from the previous day to 187,500 tomans, and the euro gained 1.31 percent to 216,300 tomans. Globally, spot gold rose 1.5 percent to $4,396 an ounce, and that move, combined with the higher domestic dollar rate, pushed Tehran's 18 karat gold up 1.54 percent to 19,017,000 tomans and the Emami gold coin up 1.39 percent to 189,100,000 tomans, even as the Emami coin's premium over intrinsic value stood at negative 2.5 percent. In Ecoiran's review of the week's performance through the same day, global spot gold's 4.87 percent gain was the best return among gold and currency markets, while the free-market dollar fell 0.37 percent and USDT-based rates fell 0.69 percent over the same period, indicating the global ounce price, not the exchange rate, was the main driver behind this week's rise in domestic gold.
