Iran's cabinet secretary announced on September 14, 2026 (23 Shahrivar 1405) that the president had ordered executive bodies to expand telework and implement a one car-free day a week plan. According to EcoIran, under the directive, government agency managers must designate a specific day for employees to commute by metro, bus or other public transport, with employees living far from their workplace given priority for telework. The plan aims to cut fuel consumption amid gasoline queues and ease urban traffic, though the report notes about 115 Tehran neighborhoods lack adequate metro access and the public transport network has limited capacity during peak hours.
