Gulf Bourses Fall as Iran Strikes US Bases in Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain

Gulf stock markets closed lower on Thursday, July 9, 2026, after Iran launched drone and missile attacks on US military infrastructure in Kuwait (Patriot air defense systems), Qatar (an early warning site) and Bahrain (fuel storage), and fired 10 ballistic missiles at Jordan's Azraq base. Business Recorder reported Dubai's DFM index fell 1.5 percent (Salik down 2.7 percent, Emaar down 1 percent), Abu Dhabi's ADX fell 0.6 percent (Alpha Dhabi down 3.5 percent), Qatar's index fell 0.8 percent (QNB down 1 percent despite reporting higher quarterly profit), Saudi Arabia's TASI closed flat (Aramco up 2.6 percent), and Kuwait's market posted modest gains. Brent crude jumped $3.14, or 4.23 percent, to $77.30 a barrel at 12:31 GMT that day.
