Head of Iran's refining and distribution company says the petrol supply chain held despite damage to the Lavan refinery and Rey facilities

Mohammad Sadegh Azimifar, chief executive of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, said on Saturday 25 July 2026 (3 Mordad 1405), on the sidelines of a meeting between Iran's oil minister and Armenia's minister of territorial administration and infrastructure, that despite damage to some installations the effect of the attacks was minimised and the fuel supply chain remained stable. He paid tribute to six oil industry workers who died during the recent attacks on oil facilities.
He said the strike on the South Pars area affected feedstock for some refineries and production facilities, and that the Lavan refinery sustained minor damage leading to a temporary reduction in its capacity. Damage to fuel transfer and storage facilities in the Rey area also left the Tehran refinery facing operational restrictions, while transit restrictions at southern ports made it harder to source part of the fuel supply through imports.
Azimifar said these conditions together limited access to strategic fuel reserves, but the petrol supply chain held. He added that security considerations prevent him from detailing the defensive measures taken, and, referring to the peak consumption days of Mordad and Shahrivar, said getting through this period will require informed public cooperation given the constraints on fuel production and imports.
