Iran government spokesperson says a change to petrol quotas or price is still under review, with no change applied so far

Fatemeh Mohajerani, the Iranian government spokesperson, said on Saturday 25 July 2026 (3 Mordad 1405), answering reporters' questions on petrol, that the need to manage consumption and create balance in this area is settled in principle, but whether that is pursued through a change in quotas or a change in price is still under review.
She said the country certainly needs strategies for managing petrol consumption, because the government currently supplies petrol to the public with a subsidy, and appropriate solutions must be adopted to bring the sector into balance.
On the possibility of a petrol price rise, Mohajerani stated that no change has been applied at present and the previous arrangements remain in place. She added that the matter is still under review, and that if a decision is taken to raise the price or change quotas it will be shared with the public with care and transparency and without unrealistic promises.
