Abdolnasser Hemmati, governor of the Central Bank of Iran, said in remarks published on Monday, 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405), citing Tasnim News Agency, that the government's plan to resolve the settlement of receivables owed to shops connected to the electronic food voucher scheme was raised at the government's economic headquarters on the evening of Sunday, 26 July.
He said that, on the president's direction, it was decided the government would cover the earlier shortfall in food voucher funding from another source and settle the shops' receivables as soon as possible.
Sahmino has previously reported that a growing number of shops had stopped accepting the electronic voucher, with retailers saying that after roughly 25 days they had still not been paid for goods sold through the scheme. The electronic voucher is the mechanism for distributing part of Iran's basic goods subsidy, and disruption to its settlement cycle bears directly on the working capital of the retailers enrolled in it.
