According to Ecoiran, citing IRNA, the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency (UKMTO) said on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 (20 Mordad 1405) that it had received a report of an incident involving a cargo ship near Yemen's al-Makha coast in the southern Red Sea. Citing Al Jazeera, the report said the ship was struck by a projectile and sustained casualties, though an exact toll has not yet been released. The same day, UKMTO reported a separate incident in the Sea of Oman, south of Pakistan's Gwadar port, in which gunfire was exchanged between a tanker's crew and armed men. The incidents add to a recent surge in maritime insecurity in the region, including a missile strike on a vessel linked to Abu Dhabi's national oil company while transiting the Strait of Hormuz in recent days.
