India's Sensex and Nifty close marginally higher after surrendering morning gains as oil and US-Iran tensions weigh
16 July 2026 | 3 months ago
India's BSE Sensex closed up 130.49 points, or 0.17 percent, at 77,185.43 on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, while the NSE Nifty 50 added 26.45 points, or 0.11 percent, to 24,078.50. The market, which had opened with a jump, gave back much of its morning gains.
Buying in banking, financial services, capital goods and oil and gas stocks offset weakness in metals, IT and consumer shares. The continued rise in oil prices and the US-Iran conflict over the Strait of Hormuz pushed investors to book profits; higher oil, of which India imports the bulk of its needs, is a key risk to the country's inflation and to the rupee.
