Inflation Gap Between Iran's Income Deciles Widens to 10.7 Points in Mordad as Point to Point Rate Hits 89 Percent

Iran's Statistical Center said the household consumer price index reached 700.1 in Mordad 1405, the month ending August 22, 2026. Monthly inflation came in at 3.4 percent, point to point inflation (compared with Mordad 1404) at 89 percent, and the annual rate, the twelve months ending in Mordad against the same period a year earlier, at 69.9 percent.
The inflation gap between household expenditure deciles widened to 10.7 percentage points in Mordad, up from 9.6 points the month before. The lowest annual inflation, 67.6 percent, was recorded for the tenth, highest income, decile, and the highest, 78.3 percent, for the second, lower income, decile. Monthly inflation for food, beverages and tobacco was 3.6 percent, and for non food goods and services 3.3 percent.
The figures, published separately by Iran's Statistical Center from the Central Bank's own gauge, come after the Central Bank reported urban monthly inflation of 3.7 percent for Mordad earlier this week, underscoring the continuing gap between the country's two official statistics bodies.
