Iranian and Turkmen customs officials agreed at Sarakhs on Monday, October 19, 2026 to study and prepare an increase in daily truck acceptance capacity to at least 350 vehicles from each side, a combined target of 700, according to Iran Customs. This is a proposed operating capacity, not an achieved daily traffic count. The two sides also discussed cutting freight-wagon waiting times and improving rail infrastructure on the Turkmen side, a route linking Iran with Central Asian trade.
