Iranian state television reported on Monday, July 27, 2026 that the Revolutionary Guards navy had stopped six vessels attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz through routes not approved by Iranian authorities. The report was carried by Agence France Presse.
According to a state television correspondent reporting from the Persian Gulf, six vessels that attempted overnight to transit through a route other than the designated one were stopped by the IRGC Navy with warning shots and turned back. State TV had earlier said one vessel was involved in an "incident" without elaborating.
On Saturday the Guards had said they stopped four vessels attempting to transit through the southern part of the strait after firing warning shots. According to Agence France Presse, Iran has effectively blockaded the Strait of Hormuz since the war in West Asia began in late February. The strait is the main export route for the region's oil, and conditions for traffic through it bear directly on global oil prices.
