IRGC says four ships trying to transit the Strait of Hormuz were stopped; the US military says it fired on another merchant vessel

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said on Saturday, 3 Mordad 1405 (25 July 2026), that its forces had stopped four ships attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz over the previous 24 hours.
At the same time, the US military said it had fired on another merchant vessel that was trying to breach its blockade of Iran's ports. Both accounts come from official bodies on either side and have not been independently confirmed.
The Strait of Hormuz is the main route for Persian Gulf oil exports, and the state of traffic through it is the most direct channel through which the current crisis reaches Iran's foreign-currency earnings, global oil prices and inflation expectations in the domestic market.
