Iran's agriculture minister: the country has shifted from importer to exporter of chicken and eggs, with order registration limits on inputs removed

28 July 2026 | 3 months ago

Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, Iran's Minister of Agriculture, told the Government and Private Sector Dialogue Council meeting held on the evening of Monday, 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405), that over the past year Iran has shifted from being an importer to an exporter of chicken and eggs. The meeting was reported by ISNA and carried by Eghtesad Online.

He said restrictions relating to registration systems, trading history and order registration for imports of raw materials have been removed, and that producers and their associations now have priority in importing inputs and can meet their needs without restriction. The minister added that market regulation and exports have also been devolved to producer associations, and that the same approach is being applied to chicken meat.

The remarks were made during consideration of the draft implementing regulation for the national poultry industry programme. Nouri Ghezeljeh said the government's reforms over the past year have achieved a substantial part of what the programme's authors intended, but that the necessary convergence and consensus among the sector's associations has not yet formed, so no consolidated report was ready. The council decided that the agriculture ministry should carry out further review before a decision is taken on the final text of the regulation.
