Iran's consumer protection body stations inspectors at four Arbaeen border terminals to monitor ticket pricing

30 July 2026 | 3 months ago

Iran's Consumer and Producer Protection Organisation announced on Thursday, 30 July 2026 (8 Mordad 1405) that it is running a nationwide supervision programme over ticket sales and passenger transport for Arbaeen pilgrims across all provinces and border terminals.

Mohammad Ebrahim Aminian, director general of the organisation's chief executive office and provincial coordination unit, said supervisory directives have been issued to industry, mining and trade departments across the country, placing all passenger terminals, and particularly those leading to the four border crossings of Mehran, Shalamcheh, Chazabeh and Khosravi, under monitoring. He said coordination has been arranged with the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organisation and provincial trade departments so that potential bottlenecks in border provinces can be identified and cleared.

He added that inspection teams are not focused solely on the outbound wave, and that plans are in place to monitor public transport fleets and ticket supply on return routes as well. According to him, overcharging, selling outside the official network, forcing pilgrims to buy ancillary services and failing to deliver the service contracted by transport companies all count as violations. The movement of millions of pilgrims in this period is one of the largest seasonal demand shocks in Iran's passenger transport sector.
