Iran's Foreign Ministry: All States Are Obligated to Refrain From Enforcing US Unilateral Sanctions
29 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Iran's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday, 6 Shahrivar 1405 (August 28, 2026), that the latest round of US sanctions, named Operation Economic Outcast and unveiled by the US government on Monday, 2 Shahrivar, amounts to state economic terrorism and violates the United Nations Charter. According to ISNA, carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad, the ministry said Washington's use of the dollar's leverage to pressure other countries into following its policies violates the national sovereignty and right to self determination of UN member states.
The statement said that under principles of international law, including UN General Assembly resolutions on non interference in states' internal affairs, all governments are obligated to refrain from enforcing such sanctions and from recognizing situations arising from them. The Foreign Ministry also stressed the Iranian nation's resolve to use every available capacity to defend the country against what it described as a combined US, Israeli military, economic and hybrid assault.
