Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: Dialogue Is the Only Practical Way Forward on Iran

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told reporters on Saturday, 7 Shahrivar 1405 (August 29, 2026), that on Iran, dialogue and negotiation are the only practical way forward. According to ISNA, citing Anadolu Agency and carried by Khabaronline, he added that Beijing opposes illegal and unilateral sanctions and that China's position is fixed and clear.

The remarks came after US President Donald Trump threatened to sanction Chinese banks over their ties with Iran. Asked whether Washington intended to do so, Trump said he did not have to announce all of his decisions in advance. Washington's campaign for new economic sanctions on Tehran and to restrict its access to the global financial system has been under way since February 28.
