Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at his weekly press briefing on Monday 12 Mordad 1405 (3 August 2026): "We currently have no negotiations with the United States."
Answering a question about Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's remarks on finalising an understanding with Oman and Iran's conditions regarding the Strait of Hormuz, he added that the talks under way are with Oman and are focused on an understanding over a route that would ensure the safe passage of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The remarks followed a claim by US President Donald Trump on Sunday 11 Mordad 1405 (2 August 2026) that an agreement had been reached over the Strait of Hormuz and that nuclear talks with Iran would begin on Monday evening. The status of the Strait of Hormuz and the diplomatic track are among the factors influencing global oil prices and exchange rates in Iran's market.
