Araghchi: We Have No Talks With the US; Iran's Conditions for Reopening the Strait of Hormuz Conveyed via Intermediaries as Oman Talks Reach Final Stage
9 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi told reporters on Sunday, 18 Mordad 1405 (August 9, 2026), that Iran has no negotiations under way with the United States and that what exists is an exchange of messages through intermediaries, not talks. According to Khabar Online, he stressed that negotiations cannot resume until the United States remedies its violations of the memorandum of understanding.
On the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi said talks with Oman over designating a new maritime route through the strait are in their final stage, with technical experts from both countries working on the maps, but that any resulting agreement with Oman over the new route does not amount to a full reopening of the strait. He said Iran's conditions for a full reopening have been conveyed to the American side through intermediaries. Donya-e-Eqtesad and Ecoiran also carried the same remarks the same day. The comments came as Tehran's TEDPIX showed its first signs of easing demand after several days of consecutive gains.
