Iran's foreign ministry spokesman warns South Korea that military presence in the Strait of Hormuz would have serious consequences

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran's foreign ministry, wrote in a Korean language message on X on Monday, September 7, 2026 (16 Shahrivar 1405), that any operational participation or military presence by other parties in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz would, under current conditions, be treated as direct support for the aggressor and would have serious consequences. According to Khabaronline, the remarks came after South Korea faced US pressure in recent days to take a role in securing shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, and has reportedly examined options such as sending a maritime patrol aircraft, a logistics support vessel and mine clearing equipment, though Seoul has not yet announced a final decision on deploying forces or military equipment to Hormuz. The strait, a route for a large share of Persian Gulf oil exports, has for weeks been the scene of maritime tensions between Iran and the United States.
