Mohammad Atabak, Iran's minister of industry, mine and trade, said in an interview with the IRIB news agency published on Saturday 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405) that of the country's total gas output of 850 million cubic metres, roughly 115 to 120 million cubic metres is planned for industry. He said energy constraints in recent months have created a large shortfall in the production sector, and described the problem as an inheritance passed from previous governments to the fourteenth administration.
Atabak said the government is working to build new power plants and reduce the imbalance, although its scale is very large. He said attacks on refineries and gas transmission lines in Assaluyeh have increased the gas deficit, but that work to restore capacity and make up the shortfall is under way before the cold season begins.
Separately, the public relations office of the Khuzestan Gas Company announced that gas flow in the Kuy Shakareh 2 area of Karun county will be cut for 12 hours on Sunday 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405), from 08:00 to 20:00, for emergency repairs.
