Saeed Tavakoli, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company and deputy oil minister for gas, said on Tuesday, 28 July 2026 (6 Mordad 1405) that on current estimates, if the projects planned by utility-service (karvar) companies are implemented by the end of this year, about 980 million cubic metres of natural gas would be saved.
He said that as of that date, 85 applicant companies had obtained temporary credentials to operate as gas utility-service companies, and 88 contracts had been signed between provincial gas companies and utility-service companies across 29 provinces. Tavakoli said the pace of contract signing continues to rise given private sector interest.
The remarks were made at a meeting on the implementation challenges facing utility-service companies holding type 2 contracts. Tavakoli added that with the war having turned into an energy war, all parts of the industry must cooperate to get through the challenges and keep the network stable.
