At a meeting of Iran's Supreme Energy Council on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 (7 Mordad 1405), the council reviewed and approved a set of policy provisions proposed by its secretariat on the strategic package for natural gas supply and distribution. First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref told the meeting that managing energy consumption helps sustain the country's production, and that decisions on it must be taken with a comprehensive view and a single approach.
Aref added that contingency planning must cover even the worst conditions, and that the government is ready to delegate to ministers whatever authority is needed to advance energy consumption management programmes. He listed drawing on private sector capacity for energy supply, continued government support for nuclear energy development, and cutting energy use through expansion of greenhouse cultivation among the main measures.
The meeting was attended by the ministers of oil, energy, industry, mining and trade, agriculture, and economic affairs and finance, along with the heads of the Atomic Energy Organization, the Environment Protection Organization and the Plan and Budget Organization, and the government spokesperson.
