Iraq's Prime Minister's office said on Saturday, September 12, 2026 (21 Shahrivar 1405), that Ali Falih al Zaidi, commander in chief of the country's armed forces, has agreed to Iran's request for a joint investigation into drone launch platforms discovered near the two countries' shared border. According to ISNA, carried by Donya e Eqtesad, the joint probe will examine the platforms' origin, how they were deployed, and who was involved in using them.
The agreement follows Friday's, September 11 (20 Shahrivar), drone attack on Saudi Arabia's East to West oil pipeline, which Saudi officials said was launched from Iraqi territory; Iraq had earlier traced the launch site to Maysan province, dismissed the province's military operations commander, and ordered an investigative council.
