Iraq's Car Sales Fall 28.6 Percent to 59,264 Vehicles in First Half of 2026

According to a report from automotive market research platform Focus2move, carried by Shafaq News on Thursday, August 13, 2026 (22 Mordad 1405), Iraq's car market contracted sharply in the first half of 2026, with sales falling 28.6 percent year on year to 59,264 vehicles. Kia remained the country's best selling brand with a 28 percent market share despite a 27.8 percent drop in sales, while Toyota ranked second with a 22 percent share and a 24 percent decline, and Nissan placed third after a 13.3 percent fall. Hyundai recorded the steepest decline among major brands at 69.7 percent, while Great Wall was one of the few brands to grow, up 6.9 percent. The electric vehicle segment saw an even sharper contraction of 72 percent, with BYD leading at a 48.3 percent share and Toyota at 43.4 percent. Iraq's car sales, which grew steadily from 2021 to 2024 and reached 158,076 vehicles in 2024, are now on a downward trend.
