Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade announced new rules on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 (21 Mordad 1405) to unblock stalled import registrations for vehicles. Under the decision, registrations filed using the applicant's or another party's foreign currency deposit, with part of the required currency already secured, can continue toward import completion if they hold a warehouse receipt dated by September 22, 2026 (31 Shahrivar 1405) and show no change in the quantity or value of goods, using the same currency source. For vehicles whose currency has not been fully secured but that were cleared from customs on a pledge not to draw currency from the central bank, under clause 45 of the Supreme National Security Council's resolution, a new registration is now possible using the "no currency transfer" method, also by September 22, 2026. Older registrations tied to bank foreign exchange operations that still lack secured currency can also continue, if they hold a warehouse receipt dated by May 30, 2026 (9 Khordad 1405), by switching their currency operation type. According to Khabaronline, citing Eghtesad Online, the validity of warehouse receipts will be reviewed by the ministry's Office of Automotive, Motive Power and Transport Industries.
