IRGC Navy says three tankers were struck and stopped in the Strait of Hormuz

The naval command of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement released early on Wednesday 29 July 2026, at 05:35 Tehran time, that three tankers had been struck and stopped after, in the statement's words, "ignoring our warnings and continuing to move along an unsafe and illegal route." The same statement said the IRGC Navy continues to exercise "complete management over the Strait of Hormuz" and warned against US interference with vessels in the region.
Al Jazeera, citing the Tasnim news agency, also reported that the IRGC said it had struck and stopped three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. On the same day, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi told state television that Iran had rejected Oman's plan to split the strait's transit lanes equally, proposing instead that Tehran manage traffic on the Iranian side.
The Strait of Hormuz is the main outlet for Persian Gulf oil exports, and any development affecting the safety of traffic there feeds quickly into global oil prices and into expectations in Iran's domestic markets.
