IRGC says three trespassing tankers were hit and stopped in the Strait of Hormuz
29 July 2026 | 3 months ago
The Navy Command of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps said in a statement on the morning of Wednesday, 29 July 2026 (7 Mordad 1405), that a few hours earlier three trespassing oil tankers which "continued to move on an unsafe and illegal route despite our warnings" had been hit and stopped. Tasnim News Agency published the statement at 8:34 a.m. the same day.
The statement said the IRGC Navy will continue to exercise "complete management" over the Strait of Hormuz, and warned that interventions and directives issued by the US military to vessels in the region will not go unanswered. According to the same report, under a memorandum of understanding signed last month between Tehran and Washington with Pakistani mediation, Iran designated a specific maritime route for safe and legal passage through the strait.
It is the latest maritime incident after the Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters said six commercial vessels were turned back in the early hours of Monday, 27 July 2026. Shipping conditions in the Strait of Hormuz have in recent weeks been among the most influential variables bearing on the risk premium in global oil prices, marine insurance rates and expectations in Iran's domestic currency market.
