Kazakhstan Reroutes Oil Exports Away From the Black Sea After Drone Strikes on Russian Infrastructure
10 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy said on Monday, 19 Mordad 1405 (August 10, 2026), that it is examining rerouting part of its crude oil exports away from its Black Sea terminal toward alternative routes through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, including the Baku Tbilisi Ceyhan pipeline, Caspian Sea shipments via Azerbaijan, and the Baku Supsa route. According to Oilprice.com, the ministry also said it is boosting eastward crude exports via pipeline to China. Kazakhstan's oil exports have been severely disrupted in recent weeks by Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian export infrastructure. In July alone, flows through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) were suspended on three separate occasions for several days at a time. The latest week long shutdown briefly removed more than 1 million barrels a day of Kazakh output from the market.
