Khor Mor gas begins flowing to Iraq's power sector at 100 million cubic feet a day

5 August 2026 | 3 months ago

Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum announced on Tuesday, 4 August 2026 (13 Mordad 1405), that natural gas has begun flowing from the Khor Mor field in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to the country's federal Ministry of Electricity, under a supply deal intended to boost power generation across Iraq.

According to the companies, the deal was signed in December 2025 and provides for the delivery of 100 million standard cubic feet a day from the Khor Mor processing facility to the Taza gas-fired power plant in Kirkuk province for an initial one year term. Supplies became possible after the Khor Mor 250 expansion entered service in October 2025, raising production capacity by 50% to 750 million standard cubic feet a day and making the additional volumes available through Iraq's national pipeline network.

Majid Jafar, chief executive of Crescent Petroleum and managing director of Dana Gas, called the first deliveries an important milestone for the Kurdistan Region's gas sector, saying they would help meet rising electricity demand and improve services. Richard Hall, chief executive of Dana Gas, said the expansion also strengthens Iraq's energy security by making electricity supplies more reliable. The companies said Khor Mor supplies fuel for more than 80% of electricity generation in the Kurdistan Region and serves more than eight million people across the autonomous region and other Iraqi provinces. Total investment in the project has exceeded 4 billion dollars.
