Khuzestan governor's office denies reports of an explosion at the Shalamcheh border crossing

Valiollah Hayati, deputy governor for security and law enforcement affairs in Khuzestan province, denied any explosion in the Shalamcheh border area, in remarks published by Mehr News Agency and carried by Eghtesad Online late on Tuesday, 4 August 2026 (13 Mordad 1405).
Referring to rumours circulating about an explosion at the crossing, he said no sound of an explosion and no security incident had occurred in the area, and that conditions along the border were completely calm and under control. The provincial official asked citizens and media outlets to follow news only from official sources and to disregard rumours spreading on social media.
The Shalamcheh crossing in Khuzestan province is one of the main routes for Arbaeen pilgrims and also one of the overland trade corridors between Iran and Iraq. According to figures published in recent days, more than 3,270,000 pilgrims have exited through the Arbaeen border crossings. An official denial of incident reports at such a crossing matters to transport operators and border traders, because any disruption on these routes feeds directly into the flow of goods and freight costs.
