The Coinbase premium index stays negative for 78 straight days as bitcoin holds around $64,000

According to a report published by Eghtesad Online, citing Ramzarz News, on Wednesday, 5 August 2026 (14 Mordad 1405), US demand for bitcoin has been weak in recent weeks and the Coinbase premium index has stayed negative for 78 consecutive days. The index measures the gap between bitcoin's price on Coinbase and on other global exchanges, and a prolonged negative reading is usually read as subdued buying by American investors.
According to the same report, disclosure of a long standing vulnerability in Coldcard hardware wallets has prompted a significant volume of bitcoin to move onto exchanges, which could generate volatility. Selling pressure from miners and the seasonal record of August, historically a volatile month for bitcoin, were cited as further challenges facing the market.
Even so, hopes tied to diplomatic developments, including talks over tensions in West Asia, have kept bitcoin around the $64,000 level. Analysts at Citadel Securities, according to the report, believe the recent decline is a correction within a larger uptrend rather than its end. These assessments are the analysts' own views and not the official position of any regulator.
