A continuing heatwave in Khuzestan has pushed temperatures in several of the province's cities close to 50 degrees Celsius. Mohammad Sabzezari, director general of the Khuzestan meteorological office, said on Tuesday, 4 August 2026 (13 Mordad 1405), that weather charts point to the hot air mass persisting across the province, with temperatures trending higher in most cities.
He said that over the past 24 hours, after Omidiyeh, the Ahvaz station recorded the province's highest readings at 50.4 degrees, followed by Ramshir at 50.2 and Aghajari at 50. Behbahan and Ramhormoz reached 49.6 degrees, Hoveyzeh 49.4, Bostan 49.2 and Shushtar 49. Shush and Gotvand recorded 48.9 degrees, Safiabad Dezful and Haftkel 48.4, and Abadan 48.1. The lowest maximum was at Dezpart, at 39 degrees.
Sabzezari added that the average maximum temperature across the province's 23 active weather stations reached 48.1 degrees Celsius. The heatwave coincides with peak national electricity demand: government offices and banks in a number of provinces have been declared closed for Wednesday, 5 August 2026 (14 Mordad 1405), to help manage the power supply shortfall.
