Red Heat Alert for 50 Degrees Celsius in Khuzestan; Weather Service Calls for Office Closures and Remote Work

13 August 2026 | 2 months ago

Khuzestan province's meteorological office issued a red level heat warning on Thursday, August 13, 2026 (22 Mordad 1405), forecasting temperatures of 49 to 50 degrees Celsius or higher across most of the province, excluding its eastern and northern highlands, from Saturday, August 15 (24 Mordad) through Monday, August 17 (26 Mordad). According to Khabar Online, the city of Shush recorded the province's hottest temperature over the past 24 hours at 51 degrees Celsius, while Ahvaz reached 50 degrees. Mohammad Sabzezari, head of Khuzestan's meteorological office, warned that rising humidity alongside the heat is increasing the risk of heatstroke and strain on the power grid. The report said continued normal office operations during peak heat hours could place heavy pressure on the province's transport system and energy use, with office closures or remote work proposed as a preventive measure.
