Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, according to a RIA Novosti report published Friday, 6 Shahrivar 1405 (August 28, 2026) and carried by Mehr News Agency, that Moscow does not want tolls imposed on transit through the Strait of Hormuz, though he said the matter still needs further discussion. He added that before the US and Israeli aggression against Iran began, the Strait of Hormuz was fully open and there was no talk of transit tolls.
Lavrov went on to criticize the US approach of aggression against the territory of independent states, saying Moscow condemned the US and Israeli strikes on Iran from the outset and has called on powers from outside the region to refrain from intervening in the Persian Gulf region.
