Lawmaker Warns New Gasoline Plan Could Raise Household Monthly Costs by Up to 8 Million Tomans

According to Ecoiran, citing Tasnim News Agency and published on Tuesday, 18 August 2026 (27 Mordad 1405), lawmaker Meysam Zohourian criticized a new gasoline plan from Iran's Fuel Consumption Optimization Organization, saying it lacks a stakeholder analysis identifying winners and losers. He said the monthly gasoline quota for households with a car, currently averaging 190 liters at prices of 1,500 to 5,000 tomans a liter, would fall to 90 liters under the new plan.
Zohourian said that if the market price of gasoline settles around the 80,000 toman level proposed in the so called Kerman plan, the average household, many of them in lower income deciles, would face about 8 million tomans in additional monthly costs. He added that reports available to parliament so far include no reliable study of the plan's social effects, including a potential rise in the cost of a tank of gasoline beyond the quota to about 4 million tomans.
