Livestock Supply Council: Red Meat Supply to Reach 55,000 to 60,000 Tons a Month as Autumn Begins

Mansour Pourian, head of Iran's Livestock Supply Council, said in remarks reported by Mehr News Agency on Friday, 3 Mehr 1405 (September 25, 2026), that the supply of live animals to slaughterhouses rises as summer ends and herds move from pastures to sheds. He put market demand for fresh meat at about 50,000 to 60,000 tons a month and current slaughterhouse supply at about 47,000 to 48,000 tons, expected to reach 55,000 to 60,000 tons as autumn begins. He forecast 3.5 million to 4 million head of sheep and goats ready for slaughter in the autumn and said the extra supply should help bring prices down.

Pourian put the current price of live male lamb at about 680,000 tomans per kilogram, calves at 575,000 tomans and buffalo at about 500,000 tomans. He said imported frozen beef is sold at 1.3 million tomans per kilogram and frozen mutton at 1.1 million tomans.
