Mazandaran closes offices and schools on Monday over heatwave power management
27 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Issa Ghasemi-Tousi, deputy governor of Mazandaran province for management and resources development, announced on Sunday, 26 July 2026 (4 Mordad 1405), that all government offices, non-governmental public bodies and educational centres and institutions in the province will be closed on Monday, 27 July (5 Mordad). He said the decision was taken under resolutions of the energy consumption management working group of the provincial crisis management headquarters, aimed at preserving the stability of the electricity network and easing pressure on power supply infrastructure.
As of publication, no province other than Mazandaran, including Tehran, had issued an official closure notice for Monday. In Khuzestan, the provincial meteorological office said temperatures of 48 and 49 degrees Celsius and above are certain across most of the province from Tuesday, 28 July, while a yellow-level warning has been issued in Ilam for an intensifying heatwave through 1 August.
The matter is relevant to the market because provincial administrative closures and the summer peak in electricity demand affect industrial consumption plans and banking and administrative services in the days ahead.
