Micron Announces Up to $3 Billion New US Investment, Lifting Chip-Sector Stocks

Micron announced on Thursday, July 9, 2026, an additional investment of up to $3 billion to strengthen the US semiconductor supply chain, including $500 million in financing for GlobalWafers' 300mm wafer facility in Sherman, Texas, plus a 10 year raw silicon wafer supply agreement. The announcement brings Micron's total committed US investment through 2035 to more than $250 billion. Micron shares rose roughly 5 to 9 percent on the news, and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOXX) jumped more than 3 percent, with Applied Materials up 9.66 percent. All four major US stock indices closed higher that day.
