National Wheat Growers Foundation: only 30 percent of the value of delivered wheat has been paid, 110 of 330 thousand billion tomans

27 July 2026 | 3 months ago

Ataollah Hashemi, a member of Iran's agricultural pricing council and head of the National Wheat Growers Foundation, said guaranteed wheat purchases had reached 6.7 million tons as of the morning of Sunday 26 July 2026, worth 330 thousand billion tomans, but that only 110.1 thousand billion tomans, roughly 30 percent, has been paid.

He said part of the arrears was settled during the past week, but there is no guarantee the payments will continue on a regular basis. Hashemi added that some farmers are currently holding back their crop until the payment position becomes clear.

He warned that if the current pace of transfers continues, wheat deliveries to the state are projected to reach at most 8 million tons, whereas timely payment could lift that figure to 12 million tons. Hashemi put the 2025 to 2026 crop year wheat harvest at above 14 million tons.
