Another 100 trillion tomans of wheat farmers' arrears due by 13 August; total debt put at 330 trillion

Ataollah Hashemi, a member of Iran's council for pricing and support policies for essential farm products, told Mehr News Agency on Wednesday 29 July 2026 that the total owed to wheat farmers who delivered their crop to the government by the end of Tir 1405 (22 July 2026) stands at 330 trillion tomans.
Based on an undertaking from the Plan and Budget Organisation, he said, a further 100 trillion tomans of those arrears will be settled by 22 Mordad 1405 (13 August 2026). That is on top of the 50 trillion tomans the agriculture ministry's deputy for crop affairs had earlier said would be paid within days.
Guaranteed wheat purchases are one of the government's largest seasonal outlays, and delays in settling them affect the pace at which farmers deliver their crop to the state. The deputy head of parliament's agriculture committee issued a warning on the same subject on Wednesday.
