Oman drafts a Strait of Hormuz traffic framework as Araghchi holds Muscat talks
21 July 2026 | 3 months ago
As mediation efforts to revive a ceasefire continued, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met his Omani counterpart in Muscat on Saturday, with the talks reported to focus on the Strait of Hormuz. A source told CNN that Oman has drafted a tentative proposal to manage and monitor shipping traffic through the strait.
According to reports, three negotiating tracks are running in parallel: indirect US-Iran talks mediated by Qatar in Doha, discussions on the nuclear timeline, and the Hormuz traffic-monitoring framework being drafted in Muscat. The strait has become the central sticking point, because fully reopening it could ease pressure on the oil market and on Iran's exchange rate.
