Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi in Muscat on Saturday, July 11, 2026, and the two sides discussed appropriate mechanisms to ensure the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to reports, the two ministers agreed to continue technical and political talks over navigation in the strategic waterway. The meeting took place after the United States had demanded that Iran publicly declare the Strait of Hormuz open to shipping.
The Strait of Hormuz carries about one fifth of the world's oil and gas, and tension there directly affects global oil prices and Iran's currency market.
