Point to point food inflation reaches 133.9 percent as the minimum workers' livelihood basket is put at about 60 million tomans

27 July 2026 | 3 months ago

Eghtesad Online, citing Tasnim News Agency on Monday, 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405), reported that Khordad data show monthly inflation for the food and beverages group at 6.8 percent, slightly above the national monthly rate of 5.9 percent. Point to point inflation for the same group has reached 133.9 percent.

According to the report, price growth has been particularly marked in items such as cooking oils, meat and dairy. The Supreme Labour Council puts the minimum livelihood basket for a worker's household at about 60 million tomans, while the base wage for 1405, including benefits, stands at around 25 million tomans.

The report adds that the effectiveness of the electronic food voucher as a government support instrument has been eroded by the pace of price growth, and that updating its value in line with current inflation has been raised. The gap between the livelihood basket and the base wage is a central variable in firms' labour cost calculations and in household inflation expectations.
