Reuters reported on Friday, October 30, 2026 (8 Aban 1405) that Qatari mediators have travelled to Tehran for the second time in a week in an effort to prevent an escalation and a resumption of fighting between the United States and Iran. A source familiar with the talks told Reuters the mediation is being coordinated with the United States. Donya-e-Eqtesad carried the report, citing Shafaqna and Reuters.
According to the same report, the Qataris also travelled to Tehran last Saturday (October 24, 2026, 2 Aban 1405) carrying a letter from US Vice President JD Vance to Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. The letter reportedly focuses on the possible resumption of negotiations, and Vance proposed that US and Iranian officials meet soon, with himself leading the American delegation. At the same time, the report says President Donald Trump is considering resuming large-scale military operations against Iran after the US midterm elections. The report gives no Iranian reply to the letter and no date for a possible meeting.
