Mohammad Lahouti, chairman of the Export Commission at the Iran Chamber of Commerce, said on Sunday, Shahrivar 1, 1405 (August 23, 2026), that a new resolution on rial settlement of exporters' foreign currency debts from 1397 to 1400 (2018 to 2021) has been approved by the currency repatriation working group. According to Eghtesadonline, the settlement rate is set at 5 percent of the exchange center's daily transfer rate for production units and 10 percent for non production companies and individuals holding a commercial card; unlike the previous round, the settlement will now count as full discharge of the currency obligation. Lahouti said fewer than 10 percent of eligible debtors had used the option in the earlier round, but demand to reopen the settlement system rose after new restrictions were imposed on commercial cards and export ceilings.
